A sump pump does nothing for years and then has to work perfectly during the worst storm of the season. Patriot Plumbing installs, tests, repairs, and replaces sump pumps in basements and crawlspaces throughout Kansas City and the Northland — including the pit, check valve, and discharge routing that actually determine whether the pump keeps up.
Most failures we're called out for are avoidable and they announce themselves early: a stuck float switch, short-cycling, a grinding motor, a check valve installed backward, a discharge line that freezes solid at the exterior wall in January, or a builder-grade plastic pump that was undersized the day it went in. A ten-minute annual test — pour a bucket of water into the pit and confirm the pump kicks on and shuts off cleanly — catches nearly all of them before a spring storm does.
We size the pump to your pit and your water table instead of grabbing the cheapest unit on the shelf, use a solid cast-iron body where the volume justifies it, install a proper check valve, and route the discharge far enough from the foundation that the water doesn't simply come back.
Power fails during exactly the storms that flood basements, so if your basement is finished we strongly recommend a battery backup system — a primary pump with no backup is no protection at all in the conditions it exists for. Ask about a backup when you call: (816) 896-6920.
